Ex-model Starts Talent Agency, By: Jocelyn Berkhahn
A new talent agency has been established in the area, and locals are invited to show off what they can do.
Janet Lawrence, a California native and Wausau resident who has experience in event planning recently launched Distinctive Celebrations Talent Agency. She continues to plan weddings and corporate events in the area.
" As we grow and progress with the downtown development, I know there will be lots of businesses that will want (models or entertainers), and why not use local talent? " Lawrence said.
Lawrence signed her first model, Rachel Moen, on Monday. Moen, 21, is a graduate of D.C. Everest High School. " The camera loves her. " Lawrence said of Moen. Three other models, one male and two females, also have signed this week.
Moen and Lawrence met in October when Lawrence helped plan the inaugural Co-Op Fashion Show, sponsored by Funky Findz Designs in Wausau and Nicole's Boutique for Women and Children in Weston.
" My boss at Pacific Sun wear suggested I should model in the show, and Janet was the organizer. I guess she liked what she saw, " Moen said. " (Modeling) is always something I wanted to do. "
Lawrence started her career in modeling as a 16-year-old in San Diego, Calif. In her 30s, Lawrence began to act in commercials.
Lawrence then began to plan events in California and again in Las Vegas. Her husband's job with Atlantic Plant Maintenance, a subsidiary of General Electric, eventually brought her to Central Wisconsin.
Moen, who is a student at the University of Wisconsin-Marathon County, said she hopes to hit it big time.
" I'd love to see myself blossom and gain more confidence, " Moen said. " I want to be known as a successful model. "
If it doesn't work out, though, Moen plans to attend a four-year UW school and pursue a degree in interior architecture and design.
